Most yellow teflon tape is for gas service lines (natural or propane gas). Although you CAN use teflon tape, I would suggest a pipe dope compound such as Rector Seal #5. This is specifically made for oil and gas lines.

I live in KY and heating with oil here has been somewhat of an oddity for many years. However I would think the yellow Teflon tape rated for solvents should do fine.

home heating oil will degrade standard teflon tape. Use the type of tape rated for heating oil. It is usually yellow in color.

if you really want a good seal use Loctite threadlocker 262

There is a special Teflon tape for this, it is yellow versus the white.

No! You need a pipe dope that is specifically made for oil. White pipe dope available at any hardware store will work good for you.
