The Pittsburgh Protocol is a "protocol" established by the University of Michigan Medical Center that broadens the "pool" of available transplantable life giving organs from those who are no longer able to live without life support.

These donor's provide consent to have life support withdrawn in the event that there is absolutely no further hope to maintain life so that their donation of human organs can go to those in need.

Best wishes!

If a patients requests ending life support treatments, they may consent to organ donations. If unable to give consent, a family may give this consent. This protocol was developed at the University of Pittsburg
