What questions should I ask the tour guide and what are specific locations I should visit? I am about to start writing down some questions. Any suggestions on the big questions that definitely should be asked?

Most schools will have a tour that will show you all of the important places you will need to know. They typically show you what the dorms look like, the dining facilities, student common areas, the library, and things like that. You will want to know where your classes will be because if you are in a certain major sometimes your classes will all be in generally the same area. You will want to know where you need to park if you are going to be keeping your vehicle there and where your book store is so you can get there when you need to order or purchase supplies. Like I said however, most schools with have a guided tour that show you all of those things. Also, during your orientation, they will go over all of those things more in detail when you attend that.

Do you know what you want to study? If it is music (for example) you might contact the music office prior to your visit and find out if there are any faculty or advisors from the department whom you could briefly talk to.

You might ask if there are any alumni who are doing what you hope to be doing that you could contact. Then you could talk to them about their education and their career and ask if they've got any tips to share with you.

Both those things may or may not be possible. But you wouldn't even have to wait until your visit to find out. Other than that, just go with an open mind and a sense of adventure because most schools have a pretty organized program to anticipate what you will need to know and see. Enjoy the visit and start meeting others who will be starting school with you. They may become lifelong friends!
