i imagine perceptually this can be true.
but it's like looking at the glass as half empty.
maybe you can perceive that in a more positive fashion: even though humans can make things worse, they can learn from mistakes and then make them better in the end.
life is a continual struggle to make surviving easier
and even if it's perceived that the balance of existence tilts towards the negative at times breakthroughs tend to bring it back to the center.
if your arguement has more to do with the reliance upon a superior power, it is still humans who choose to make things better by asking for divine assistance.
so, my perception as a response to your statement is humans CAN make things worse they CAN also make them better or they CAN do anything but overall they WILL make things better

Nonsense.
One can only wonder if the person who said this has never had a picnic ruined by the rain. Even if one argues, "the only reason the rain was bad was because you chose to have a picnic", then it's a simple enough matter to replace all the humans with puppies. Do not puppies meet and occasionally have their activities interrupted by weather? If this is so, then either the puppies or the weather are causing it. No humans involved.
Copernicus ended geocentrism a long time ago. The universe doesn't revolve solely around us in any sense!

Only humans are capable of assessing anything as worse than it was. Only humans can assess things being better than they were.
What did humans do to make the tsunami in the Indian Ocean worse than it already was?
Your assumption that things are already bad is nothing more than a misuse of reason. Where I live things are pretty good.

Anything can make things worse than they already are.
Sometimes all it takes is a very big rock hitting the Earth to make things worse, or massive heat wave, or a tornado. None of those things are under our control.
I think it's truer to say that only humans can make things better. Just look up your ancient ancestors for what life was like 'back then'. Diseases without cure, world-wide epidemics, near constant warfare, 18 hour days just to keep yourself from starving to death, a 30 year life span (if you were lucky). Humans can make things better, just as much as they can make things worse.

That's probably true, because outside of the context of humans, wildlife populations are ruled by the laws governing ecosystems. If a given population gets too large, something will happen to bring it back down to a safe size (i.e., if a predator population gets too large, it shrinks back down for lack of enough food to maintain the growth, and if a small animal population grows too much they are brought back in check by predators).
Plant life simply grows on its own. Animals other than humans don't cut down the trees and burn forests for farmland and developments, so plant life thrives on its own.
There is no sense other than population growth in which a non-human animal could make things worse- other animals don't engage in wars, kill their environment, kill each other (in overwhelming numbers greater than is needed to survive), or develop weapons. The only thing that would allow these animals to "make things worse" is the help of humans who were using them as tools to cause some harm (like training animals to kill people, releasing a lion in a public place, or teaching a gorilla to fire a gun).

True.... By overthinking and over-emotionalizing (is that a word?), we do tend to make things more difficult for ourselves than they have to be.
If you're talking about the world in general.... We've had a big say on how things are the way they are, but I'm sure we can make them worse if we don't try to do otherwise.

Depends on what context. My cat can make her own life worse than it already is (not that it is) by accidentally stepping in front of a car. To that end, termites can make a homeowner's life considerably worse. Define your parameters.

I disagree. Your statement is too broad. We are not the only living beings and we are not the ones who control the universe.
