We use ultrasonic cleaners in the watch trade, they work by sending very high frequency waves through whichever medium you are using, i.e. water or some sort of solution.
The "waves" bombard the item you want cleaned and effectively shakes the item very fast but in very a minute way.
This dislodges dirt away from the item.

Ultrasound literally blasts the jewelry with very high frequency sound waves. The waves have enough force to knock small particles loose from the jewelry.

Weird idea, isn't it. Basically the sound waves jiggle the dirt off. Honest.
