Am I wrong?
it seems we are obsessed with what is bad for us no matter how minute the damage
yet we have the most advanced medical sector in the world and vast knowledge of alternative medicine, herbs and vitamins

"Why men should fear death, a necessary end, will come when it will come"?

The explanation is literally right in front of you everytime you turn on the TV. We are subjected to an endless barrage of "information" (much of it distorted or outright wrong) about "health risks." And it's not just the commercials--practically every news or talk program has at leas tone ssegment sounding the alarm over some obscure "condition" we're all supposed to be concerned about. I watched one the other day talking about how parents need to protect children against frostbite on a local TV station--in Atlanta. The only way to get frostbite in this town is to lock yourself in a freezer.

We--as a society--have embraced a "culture of risk and risk avoidance" (google those terms and you'll get a lot of info; social scientists are looking at this very closely). Or, more correctly, its been marketed to us and we've bought into the fear mentality--and lined up like mindless sheep to spend not merely billions, but hundreds of billions (NOT an exaggeration) each year on nostrums that the health-care companies put on the market.

And if you don't think this a climate of fear deliberately produced, take a mental step back sometime while your watching TV--and listen to the "tone" of the commercials and "health news" you'll quickly catch on: most of it comes down to :be afraid--and if you aren't using such and such a product, you are going to suffer.

Medicine can't do everything, and working in the hospital I see how little medicine can help when simple exercise, a healthy diet and avoiding smoking, etc. can increase the quality of one's later years. It's not a pretty sight, trust me. Plus the medications a lot of times will have a negative effect on other body systems such as the kidneys, liver, heart, etc.

A word of warning for everyone, you don't want diabetes...it is probably the worst thing out there. You can't imagine what it does to your body, I have a patient with no legs, completely blind, colostomy, and urostomy...how old was she you ask? 48 years old. Be afraid, very afraid. Not of dying, but instead of living with some of these diseases that can be avoided by a healthy lifestyle or controlled with the proper medication.

Do you really think we have the "most advanced medicine" in the world? The US may well have the most developed pharmaceutical industry and the most available resources (economic, technological, etc.), but as far as having a true holistic understanding of medicine, I think the US is far behind, especially when it comes to alternative medicine. Coming up with a pill for everything isn't the same as offering the best treatment possible. For God's sake, they even came up with a pill for Restless Leg Syndrome? Are they serious???

You Americans really need to start living a healthier lifestyle.

I understand being poor and not being able to get health care, but there are things you can do from the time you are a child onwards to ensure that you have good health. Simple things like washing, brushing your teeth, eating healthy. Sheesh, if you live in the country well you have all that fresh air and land to grow wonderfully healthy fruits and veggies...we should be so lucky in the city. You have fields to run and play in, you work the land...there is no reason to be unfit.

If you live in a city then you have so many things at your disposal, you have no excuse there either.

Drugs are what you should stay away from, drugs, alchohol and cigarettes. You'll live to be a lot healthier if tv land, computers and food weren't your main stress-busters.

And popping pills won't solve any of your woes, just add to them.

because of the fact united statesa. is one in each and every of the two international places interior the international who does not have public wellbeing care (the different one being South-Africa). the government takes much less funds removed from you for wellbeing care than the hospitals who're commercial. i discover it fool that a state like Cuba has greater effective wellbeing care than united statesa. (look it up, it is genuine). yet insurance companies have been given human beings employed who verify out each and every thing and look in the event that they are in a position to turn them down. the guy who makes particular the least human beings get healthful gets an advantage. ill device. And without social centers, greater human beings interior the greater damaging aspects of the super cities gets ill, which takes the common down.

I know what you mean. Every other day a "study" says something is good for you than bad for you than good for you etc etc.
Classic is grilling meat on gril adds a know carciogen which is true according to the study but what they didn't tell you grilling remove 10.

Eat in moderation, reduce you intake and excerise more and we will be fine.

It is a curious thing.
When I lived in Seattle, I noticed that people there had a fear of sunlight. They made their children cover up on warm days, for fear of getting skin cancer. Teachers warned my pre-school daughter against the dangers of playing in the sun. And at this northern latitude, let me tell you, it is not that easy even to get a tan, not to mention the fact that Seattle is cloudy more often than sunny.
When I moved to southern California, on the other hand, I noticed that people are are scared of rain. Here, the teachers warned my daughter against playing in the rain. If Seattle children never played in the rain, they wouldn't get out much! And nobody warned her against the dangers of the sun anymore. Believe me, at the latitude of Southern California, it's not that hard to get over-exposed to the sun, but people don't worry that much about it.

I think the media is partially to blame. With all of these constant articles and news reports about how eating/drinking/whatever such and such is connected to such and such illness, we just become more aware of how much "danger" we live in.

People are naive, and tend to believe everything that the media feeds them. This world gets more cruel and dangerous every day. Whether or not people choose to live in paranoia is up to them.

Because most of the info a person gets about meds is the advertisements on TV not from a doctor,, TV convinces a person they need it and they go to a doctor and the doctor gives it to them..
