i am looking at buying a laptop for college. is this computer a good one, officemax has it on sale. HP Pavilion dv9205US 17" Notebook PC

Depends, what do you want to do with it? If the specs I'm looking at for it are correct (Turion 64X2, gig of ram, 120 gig hd, Go 6150), it'll be a fine productivity/multimedia machine, but if you're looking to play any games that are remotely new, look elsewhere. Also, consider the weight factor as well since its a big laptop; if you're planning on taking it to classes (I do, which is why i opted for a 14.1" laptop) consider if you want to lug such a big thing around campus.

I purchased an HP Pavillion laptop from Best Buy. I have had absolutely no problems out of it whatsoever.

ANY hp laptops are good! hp is the ONLY company that puts HD sound card at 32bits and a HD screen even if they don't say! trust me! i got a nx6110 notebook by hp!

DON'T get hp or compaq!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the are horrible i payed $1000.00 for one and it stopped working after 5 weeks you can go to cnet.com and get reviews on all kinds of stuff and go to stealdeals.net to find great prices and also coupons just don't buy from buy.com because they're known to rip people off
