You have 2 chances to get your serve in. If you double fault, you opponent gets only 1 point.

The weird thing about tennis is the point system !

To win a match you have to win the SET first: 3 of 5 sets, 2 of 3 sets or just one set.

Each set is composed of least 6 GAMES. The first person to reach 6 games wins the set (in case of tie you can win 7-5 or even 7-6 with a tiebreaker).

Each game can be won by winning 4 points and are called in tennis jargon:
1st point = 15
2nd point = 30
3rd point = 40
4th point is game and the serve switches.
If you are tied at 40-40 (3 points each) its called a DEUCE and you have to win by 2.

Now when you serve, you have 2 tries, if you miss your first serve its called a FAULT, if you miss your second serve, is called a DOUBLE FAULT and your opponent gets a point.

So that's the Tennis point system in a nutshell.

The person Serving loses one point because it is called a double fault. There is also something called LET and if when you are serving the ball hits the top of the net and bounces over in the box you get a serve back if you have one serve left, two if you have two.

You are allowed one fault when serving, if you double fault on the serve the opponent receives one point.
