is running a home business the same as regular business. dressing too professional intimidate customers or relay a high standard?

I think you should dress for business from home the same way you would if you had an office. This standard varies from business to business though. A work-from-home CPA should dress differently than a work-from-home photographer. Use your best judgement, and if you find people reacting negatively to your professional attire, tone it down a notch. I think it's better to dress too formally than too casually in the business world, because I'd rather have someone take me too seriously than not seriously enough. Also, if you know who is coming for an appointment, cater to them. A truck driver will be comfortable with someone in a nice shirt and jeans. A CEO will be comfortable with someone in a coordinating suit and tie.

Dress appropriately professional for the industry you're in. It might make clients uncomfortable to meet with you in your home instead of neutral territory, like over lunch. Being too casual may make them uncomfortable or give the wrong impression too.
