We have the technology, the ingenuity and the awareness to do so much. But do we have the will? We can cure many diseases and we can alleviate the symptoms of others but have made health and treatment into a for-profit business. We can explore distant galaxies but ignore our own planet. We saved the whales yet take no action against countries who flaunt the whaling ban. We are educated but our education system fails our children. We have harnessed the atom but don't use it for peaceful purposes. We detest crime yet we abide criminals. We work hard to take care of ourselves and our families but always seem to be back-pedalling. We have borders but they are invisible. We have laws but they are useless. We have ideas and thoughts and we keep them to ourselves (except to grumble on Yahoo! Answers!).

We KNOW how to solve our collective problems - so why the heck don't we?

We can strive to lead good respectable lives trying our best to help those worse off than ourselves and teach our children likewise. We can work hard at everything we do and show a good example to others.Respect seems to have disappeared from our society, it needs to be taught to our youngsters as things are on a downward slope and I'm glad I wont be here to see the state of this country in a few decades time.

I reckon the best thing your generation could do would be to get into power. One common factor, all down the generations is that it's the generation a couple of generations ahead who run/rule the country. It's the generation a couple of generations ahead who lead us into wars, it's the generation of a couple of generations ahead who own the newspapers, television companies, this same generation control the courts, make the laws, wear the wigs and gowns. Every would be and 'can do' generation has had and is still having to live within the confines of how 'oldies' see the world.

Good question! I think we'd solve some of our major environmental/economical problems if we'd all buy smaller, more gas efficient vehicles. And although I'm an advocate of scientific research, I think that we should cut funding from the space program and concentrate more on diseases such as AIDs and issues that are closer to home.

Yes, the answers are there. The real beginning seems now. It will take physical effort though. For the contribution to manifest relying on authority or the authorities in a subject matter will not work. People have to regulate the living hell out of each other for any delicate dreams to become real.
