Isolation always works for me. Finding my own "space" and doing something I like to do is good therapy. I usually go to the mall, listen to music, play games on the computer, read a good book, or go to a coffee shop. The key is doing these things alone so that I can get my thoughts together and self-reflect. When you involve others, it can get "messy" and also, you might be easily influenced when you're feeling upset and/or vulnerable.

Fortunately, I never stay mad long. I find that most things aren't worth the effort of staying angry. Life is just too short and the ones we love are far more important than what the tiff is about. If something has really upset me, I will find a quiet place to go to. I use to drive to the beach and find a quiet spot and sit on the sand and watch the surf. I would take the time to think through what the argument was about, and sometimes even have a little silent prayer time about it. Now that I no longer live near the ocean, I just head for the park. The point is, separate yourself from the situation and it quickly defuses. Then, once I feel calm, I can go back and apologize for my part in it. Nine out of 10 times the other person will apologize too.

It don't take me long to shake something off because I understand how people are. I believe the key here is to understand yourself first, and go from there.

I take the dog out for a walk and blow off the negative energy which I had just created. I take deep breaths on my way and clear my head. I walk at a fairly brisk pace, and it calms me right down.

I sometimes vent out my anger on some else. People who are close to me understand and just listen to me without taking offense. If no one is around I'll just rant out loud. I also sometimes watch a T.V. show I know is funny and force myself to laugh. Laughter is the best medicine.

I walk away from the situation and go for a walk just to clear my head or I put on my ipod and just block everything out.
