Maybe she just wants everyone to think she is "cool", so she makes up a friend. There is really no harm in this. Unless it is interfering in your friendship with her, I would just let her be.

she justs want everyone to think she is cool and has tons of friends. She has self-esteem issues just be her friend and don't tell her that you know she'll feel really ashamed and stupid. Try to make her feel a little important and invite her places where she can meet new people, so she won't feel the odd one in the group.

If its not a family member, its possible that she's simply trying to fit in.
Maybe if you started calling and txting her more it would help her let go of this make-believe person and act more age appropriate.

Sounds like she has low self esteem and is wanting you guys to think that she's popular. Just see it for what it is and ignore it - she'll eventually get tired of it and stop.

Maybe someone else has her phone... ?? Hey, stop judging, you don't know (Or you wouldn't have asked!!) so... since you aren't sure either, you can't say you know what's going on.
