Should I call the police. I know shes here illegally and if arrested will get deported. Should I ask her for the money back she stole, or should I have her arrested? What approach do you suggest? She only stole 45 dollars but still..

I don't see anything wrong with hiring a woman, who needs money and is here illegally. Lady has two kids they need to eat to, so whats wrong with helping someone who is a friend of a friend.

For those few people that said shame on you for hiring an illegal what’s wrong with trying to make someone’s life a lil easier.. It people like you who should be a shamed of yourselves. After all the only natives here were the American Indians, and everyone is here illegally if you look at it through that aspect.

i would confront her and if she is defensive and doesn't offer the money back, tell her you will call the police.
or better yet, blackmail her for one MILLLION Dollars (rubbing hands and giving the evil eye)

Why did you install the hidden cam if you didn't intend to do something about it? And if you hired her knowing she is here illegally then you are in trouble also. I would ask for the money back along with anything else she has taken. Then I would terminate her immediately. You can call the police but you are just as guilty for hiring her!!! Or you can take the money out of her check with interest that is appropriate and tell her if she ever steals from you or anyone else again you will fire her and turn her in for deportation. That is threatening and I wouldn't like being threatened if I was that lady, but she is taking the chance, so I guess she will have to take what comes her way. I feel badly for all of you.

Even if you get the money back, who's to say she won't find another way to steal, without getting caught by the camera?
Calling the police might solve one problem, but if you know that she is illegal, then you might also land yourself in hot water for employing her in the first place.
I would ask for the money back, or better yet deduct it from her pay (after showing her the proof you have) and if the stealing continues, fire her... you have at least given her the chance to change then.

I'd call the police for sure! She's pressing her luck being illegal and still having people hire her. Stealing on top of that is like she wants to be deported. $45 is like a million in Mexico, she'll be fine.

Get over yourself!!
My mother was a maid once and sure.. she occasionally brought home an old shirt or a few extra dollars.. She deemed it socialistically necessary!! She never used those extra 5 dollars to hurt anyone.. and she was never happy to do it and only did it once or twice.. my mother is much loved by everyone and has made many people very happy with her cooking, her broken English and her life filled charisma..
I say give this woman a break and if anything pull her up tell her you know she stole from you then give her an extra $100 dollars and tell her if she is desperate next time to just ask!!
This will make you a great man/woman.
If you ruin her life however it will make you an ignorant hatefilled person who maybe is very fortunate to even have a maid, yet doesnt even know it yet.
It's not for you to play God with her life, because of some silly laws.. plus take the opportunity to show her you are better than to be stolen from in the first place.
Good luck for both of you with your decision.

$50 per week are you insane thats too little as salary no wonder she'll steal from you. I think you should give her a chance, everyone done or do bad things, you should at least give her a chance and if she do it again you'll take action. But still 50 per week is really less even though she's illegal

Theft is a crime. Call the police. Report the theft. Ask her to return the money. Let the government deport her. Save someone else from being victimized by her.

Stealing is stealing. You say you know that she's here illegally, then you should be jailed for giving her work!!! It's people like you that rants and raves about illegal immigration yet you hire illegals.
You are stealing, stealing help at lower cost!!!
SHAME ON YOU!!!

That's a tough one.
Not sure I'd rat her out to 'la migra', but I'd definitely call the company she works for. And yes, ask for the money back. If she refuses, then call the cops.

No, do NOT call the police. Call the Border Patrol and have her deported.
Then, ask the Border Patrol to bring you a new maid.
