I'm debating if I should go back to school. I'm divorced with three children. My baby is 2 1/2 and I'm engaged to his father. We are living with my fiances mother right now trying to save money for a house. He sold his house in order for us to have more space for the kids. My fiance currently makes good money (100k). My kids are ready for preschool. I was wanting to finish my degree in elementary education I am currently half way there. Should I be going to work to help save money or should I be finishing school for the next two to three years. I feel guilty for not being able to contribute financialy for myself and my other two children. My ideal would be to be able to contribute to our family financialy and also have the flexiblily having summers and holidays off to be Mom. Is this fair to him and the kids if money is not the issue?

How about splitting the difference and doing both? Many women go to school part time and work part time. You can start out with one or two classes per week. If you can somehow work out babysitting arrangements it could work. It might take a little longer, but it would be working on both at the same time.

The first thing you should do is finish that schooling!! That should have been your first priority. You got to think about your child and how you going to make it if things end up not working out later down the road. Get that education and than think about working if you are able to. If things end up getting tuff get a part time job. You might end up not having a lot of time with your little one, but it will work out in the end. Once you get that education you can make it without being dependent on a man.

If you are going to be home when your kids are home from school then yes I think it's ok. If you are trying to save money, then I would consider holding off on your degree for now and wait until you are more stable. What do you mean by having summers and holidays off with mom? Why can't you be with your family?
