Can you tell me about the quality of the build on the Ducane and the reliability?

Thanks.

The truth of the matter is that the quality really doesn't change that much between each manufacturer. There are only a few compressor manufacturers out there, and the electronics all tend to come from the same place.
I have worked on heating and air conditioning systems for 20 years now, and i have seen lemons from every major and minor brand.
Ducane is Owned by Lennox, and Lennox has been in the heating and air conditioning business for a long time.
The more important thing to consider is the SEER rating (efficiency) and the warranties that come with the unit.
If you really want a better-known name brand, I'm sure your builder will accomodate you, but you'll be paying for the name- not necessarily increasing the quality.

I agree with the others. Look up consumer reports on Ducane. Basically there are a handful of actual manufacturers out there. They make the same unit and put different names on it. For example, Trane was purchased by American Standard...and Bryant and Carrier are pretty much the same unit. Builder models, such as Rheem or Rudd, are cheaper but have problems usually within 6 to 7 years.

Good luck!

Remember ..all you are to the contractor is a pay check , they always take the cheapest way out . (( for them )) not you . most all of them use the cheapest materials available to build your home , they use the cheapest everything . Look up the best brands ,and have it installed ... if you pay less now you will pay more later ...the cheapest way out is normally the worst way to go .. Ducane is as cheap as junk from wal mart....

running costs is that worth considering ,
consider an invertor unit if possible is a small saving in instillation worth it after 5 or 10 years in greater bills?
an inverter unit will use less power over a long period of time how are you going to be using the unit a few days a year or for long periods day in day out?

I do not think they are top quality. Builders like to buy cheaper materials to keep the costs down.

I think they're okay, but Carrier is usually considered the best. I have a Lennox, and it works great.
