I thought the 2nd largest muslim population of the Pakistanis was in England, Bradford, Yorkshire. I grew up near Bradford, now I cannot even enter Bradford without a Pakistani asking me what I'm doing there?????? Well, I'm not defaecating or urinating on the street as I see them do. Poor old England!
I hope this does not offend you too much, but sweetie you have to take what comes along.

I'd say firstly that wasn't the only reason. Pakistan was a part of India. There were political reasons.
India has a very large population. So there's going to be more of everything. Also people are always going to be influenced by their neighbors to some degree. So of couse there wil be Muslim and Christians and Hindus, Bahai, buddist etc.
Yes they were violent to non Muslim. That's the way the world was at that time. People that were very different from the other were often not even considered human. It's getting better though. Soon people of the world won't contribute to such insanity.
Yes the partition gave them some peace and quiet for awhile.

The 1947 partition was a major setback in the history of India. The dream of unified India was shattered with the partion. Our leaders tried to consolidate the dream by allowing muslims in the region to stay back. 60 years have passed by and the wound is still fresh.
The purpose was to create a muslim nation, it was not to drive away all the muslims into another region. Purpose was served. Partition was never meant to be in favor if the country. The concept of partition was proposed by Mr. Jinnah, who wasn't very active in the freedom struggle.
Your second question - Neither Hindus, nor Muslims gained from partition.
All the best...

First of all you open yourself to all kinds of responses when you go on a public forum. So there is no point try controlling something that cannot be controlled.
Secondly, your P.S. doesn't look like you mean anything but controversy to erupt and wash your hands off of it. You know the answers to your questions.
My response to your question is that it was not for anyone's benefit but for the one who split the then existing country whatever shape and size it was. The Brits did not inherit it nor it was a business contract that is usually has both sides' interest protected. It was arbitrary and opportunistic. We could go into the details, but read up on the history of Europe before the first world war. The 100 Year War, and The Thirty Year War, followed by the two world wars, and still the wars in Europe. Now we have wars in all three corners of the country after the so called partition. Who supports these wars and who gets the ammunition to these "peace loving" people to butcher, murder is for you to figure out.
I am sorry if I have distracted you but you asked a question that is irrelevant as the direct answer is dead ended. We may want to ask What Now ?

The concept of partition was proposed by Mr. Jinnah, who thought that if the Muslims were to live in undivided India, then, they would have be second class citizens. As Pakistan was created as a Muslims living country, all the Muslims should have gone to Pakistan to become its citizens leaving India to be lived by only Hindus. But, in reality, that did not happen.Few Muslims stayed back in India., With the creation of Pakistan, only Jinnah' problem was solved, not of Muslims.

The Hindus never gained anything from anybody. Invasion of India was rampant in the ancient times due to disunity of the Raja's, who would sell their mother for the thrown. This tradition is now carried forward by the so called "Netas", [politicians], for their vested interested. Unless and until Hindus rid their own differences we would not gain anything at any time.
The partition was a farce, didn't serve the purpose millions of people died for.

The Partition was not meant to give equality, it was meant to separate India on communal lines, and it was the British who started this, so that the National Movement would be weakened
India's leaders knew that equality was the only way towards freedom. Thus, they invited all religions to come and be part of the SECULAR Union.
PS: Pakistan's first Gov-gen MA Jinnah also hoped for a secular nation, but several military coups later, the nation became an Islamic Republic

The background:
Except British and the Muslim League nobody was in favour of partition of India, not even muslims. Many muslim leaders including Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Maulana Azad were openly against partition. Common muslims trusted their Hindu and Sikh neighbors and did not ask for partition. Some tyrant landlords though wanted a safe heaven for them because they feared retribution from the downtrodden farmers after independence. Jinnah wanted Pakistan because due to presence of more popular and abler leaders it was impossible for him to dictate united India.
When Jinnah failed to grab power of united India, he demanded partition to become Governor General of Pakistan on basis of his "Two nation" theory. Birth of Bangladesh proved that the "Two nation" theory was just a more violent and communal form of the "Divide & Rule" theory.
Now coming to your questions:
1. Except for a few foreign-educated, short-sighted, authoritarion elite Muslim, nobody wanted partition. Majority resisted the change. Though the non-Muslims were forced to leave western India, there was no such pressure on Muslims. That is why we still have more Muslims in India than in Pakistan.
2. Nobody gained anything from partition. All Indians (including Pakistanis, Bangladeshis) lost something to the Partition. Some lost money or life while others lost love, friends, relatives, trust and dignity. But the absolute losers are the Muhajirs, the muslims who left UP and Bihar to get settled in Sindh and Punjab to live with discrimination, torture, and tragedies forever.

I cannot begin to enter this discussion due to my lack of knowledge on the subject.
What I can do is compliment all of you for a civilized discussion on a complicated subject that has great emotional impact.
It seems that it was a time of partitions. N. Korea and S. Korea, East Germany and West Germany, East and West Berlin. And then there was the movement of an entire nation westward as with Poland who lost land to the East and gained land from former Germany. But in fact it is never quite that clean. Separating families and old cultural ties is gut wrenching.

Regarding the question why there are still Muslims in India
Because its the land of their forefathers
Although if you look at percentages it might look great, but less Hindus emigrated to India compared to Muslims who migrated to Pakistan. The percentages look great because Pak had a lesser population.
While criticizing Muslims, don't forget how badly lower castes Hindus have traditionally been treated by Upper caste Hindus in India, because of which many of whom (the Lower Caste Hindus) converted to Islam.
Also, don't forget Mughals ruled India as their own country even though they were Muslims. Many of the Mughal kings had Hindu wives and mothers
and appointed their Hindu relatives to high position. Mughals made India the richest country in the world under their rule. Muslim rulers like Tipu Sultan and Siraj ud daulah are admired by Hindus and Muslims alike.
The problem is with hindu mentality. Muslims in India are as Indian , but Hindus want to treat them as B class citizens. You want them to leave, instead of listening to their problems and taking concrete measures to solve those.
Why is it that the drainage system, roads, electricity supply etc in a Muslim dominated locality of any city the worst?
Why is it that Muslim students do not get a fair chance in university programs?
Why is it that your brotherly hood , discriminates Muslims in jobs?
why?
Hindus want them to migrate to Pakistan and Bangladesh. But , Muslims will not leave just because Hindus want them to leave. Hindus have made them one of the most resilient community on the face of earth, thank you.
And for your kind information, the world is not blind. It sees what goes on in your backyard. The most balanced perception of a Hindu Muslim conflict, you will get from a Muslim who is also Indian, but u always charge them and hold them to prove their loyalty towards their motherland .... very poor treatment of your Muslim brothers and sisters.
