Because for every protester that supports the troops there's at least a dozen in the group who does not. There are some well intentioned individuals that are against the war in Iraq, but many others have other political motivations, including a distaste for the military.

Aside from being right wing rhetoric (and because of this reason) to be opposed to the war actually requires thought and connecting the events of the past to the present. Many supporters are people who believe with blind faith in anything that their political party does and says without any kind of critical process. How many times have you heard folks of the nu right say "I support my President" or "I stand behind my party" these empty slogans mean nothing they represent the mindless masses that we have seen in dictatorships and totalitarian society's of the past societies that allowed for massive genocides and then we wonder how could this have happened.
Saying that someone with enough critical skills to be against the war, is also against the troops comes from the inability to think critically and it is a simplistic view of the world and war which neither of these things as we know are simple.
Yes is just semantic manipulation, but it still so powerful a play in our culture and politics and after all we learned from the past propaganda machines....

The troops are over in Iraq figting for US! they are over there protecting us from potential threats. If they were not over there and did not catch sadam and some of the most wanted people in the world, then there may have been more terrorist attacks that could have been worse than 9/11. Its not all just the pro-war people either. Many people feel that you are then not being grateful towards the troops.

In many eyes, protesting the war means you're anti-American and/or unpatriotic. The most patriotic people I know will be protesting tomorrow.
The other way we can support our troops is by providing equipment that keeps them as safe as possible. When they get home, they should have benefits that are hassle-free and health care that is the same quality as that of the white house staff.

Well, there are some antiwar folk who DO blame it on the troops. I know one in particular, she HATES anyone in the armed service--and calls them names--to their face, if she comes in contact with them. It is fkn ridiculous. Also, I was listening to a radio talk show & they had on this Iraq veteran who had been maimed in the war, He went to the protest in washington about a month ago, and people spit on him and tried to hit him. He went to tell people that he believed in the war but before he even had a chance to speak he was getting assaulted. VERY VERY VERY sad, but that is the reality.. There are some "PEACE" keepers who are actually just anti-war because they want to be anti ANYTHING--especially anti-establishment, and they are NOT the peace lovin hippies they'd love to known as.

What side of the protests do you think the terrorists are on?
The terrorists and insurgents want free reign. The troops are hindering their reign of power.
You say pro-war, I say anti-terror.

This is just one of the republican methods of trying to divide the country. It would be un-American not to express your views. I for one protest the war, but support our troop as they are just being exploited. For all of the suppossed war lovers, you should send your children over there to defend their country instead of resorting to childish name calling. You should be willing to make sacrafices or else just shut up.

Scare tactics. Neo-cons have a bully mentality. I think they were picked on in grade school or something. They are afraid to go against the flow even while flowing over the cliff.

It is *not* supporting the troops because the protesters want our troops to get killed.
The protesters' goal is for us to lose in Iraq, and to lose to the terrorists.
