I have hundreds of image files and they all have different names. However, I want to rename them in a definite order, for example, 001.jpg, 002.jpg, 003.jpg, 004.jpg.. and so on.

Apparantly, it is going to take a great deal of time if I rename them one at a time. So, do you people know of a technique using which I could rename large number of times in a definite order ?

Alright, quite simple.

[^] - Press Ctrl+A in the selected folder (or Control Click the required ones)
[^] - Press F2 and type in the word "image"
[^] - The first image will be called "Image" and the second will be "Image 002", they third "Image 003" and so on.
[^] - Done!

Hi Silly,

Highlight the first file, hold down the shift key and highlight the last file. Right click and select "Rename". Name the file what you want - say "Test". The first file will be Test the next file Test(1) etc.

I rename pictures all the time by the occasion - say, Christmas 2006, New York Vacation etc.

I have a program called ACD See. You can highlight as many files as you like, then right click and do rename series. Then you enter your template (such as: Wedding pix####) and the program renames the files with your template, replacing the #'s with numbers consecutively. I don't know where you would find ACD See.

copy a name for the file (Ctrl+c) and paste (Ctrl+v) it then just name it 1.2.3.4 e.t.c
