I can't seem to get my adobe flash player to function. Any suggestions?

When I recieve email with swf attachments, they won't play. When I try to post a flash show, it will not post. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my flash player. It says it's intstalled/working, but does not function. Am I missing a setting to change? Appreciate any help. Thanks

If you have a linux type distribution, you can uninstall the packages, clean temp files, and install a stand alone flash player, or a new plugin.
In Windows, if permissions are still available, you will need to remove all files associated with flash, then reinstall. This means checking your registry.
