Will towing up to 3 miles at time, damage automatic transmission

--As long as you don't continuously shift gears, or vary the engine speed, the clutches will be fine.
--The "automatic" part of the transmission is just a centrifugal clutch. Once the quad gets moving and the engine's RPMs are constant, the clutch is locked and no wear will come to it.
--Let off the throttle, or shift gears and the centrifugal clutch disengauges. Then when you get on the throttle again, the centrifugal clutch trys to grab and slips in the process.
--The only damage that will occur (if any), is the clutch "shoes" will wear a little faster if you abuse it.

I would not tow any automatic trasmissioned vehicle for fear of damaging transmission. Better find a trailer or pickup !!
