So I was just told if I am visiting Canada, I am from Michigan, and something happens to me there that requires medical attention and I go through the emergancy room, I will be refused treatment unless I have cash on hand to pay in full right then? Any truth to this? Thanks!

No. It's not true--at least not in Ontario

The Health Act prohobits the Emergency Room from turning away anyone with a life-threatening condition, whether they can pay at the time or not.

They can bill you afterwards, and they can theoretically turn you away if your condition is not life-threatening (although they seldom do).

However if you are from out of the country and visiting Canada, I'd strongly suggest you get insurance for your visit (Blue Cross or similar). It's not that expensive.

Canadian Hospitals can not legally turn you away, however you can and will be billed for every service you receive while there.

You are always best when traveling to purchase low cost medical insurance.

Someone is hoaxing you. By law and by policy, Canadian hospitals don't turn anybody away. Your insurer will be invoiced or, if you don't have one, you personally. But you'll be treated.
