I would recommend a telescope instead, but
I can't explain why(sigh). I just don't think
binoculars are designed for stargazing. I
had no luck with the binoculars, but they
were not expensive. But telescopes are
better for scanning the heavens, hence
the observatory.

For planets, at least - Venus, Jupiter, Saturn - very good with binoculars. A few stars as well, but nebula are hard to see.

Sure, it's a bit tricky because of the two lenses, but you can always look through only one of the eyepieces. The magnification is not nearly as good as with a telescope, though.

I use my binoculars more than my telescope for nighttime star/planet viewing.

Certainly. You can see craters on the moon, the larger satellites of Jupiter, and Saturn's rings. The biggest problem is holding them steady.
