I would recommend a telescope instead, but
I can't explain why(sigh). I just don't think
binoculars are designed for stargazing. I
had no luck with the binoculars, but they
were not expensive. But telescopes are
better for scanning the heavens, hence
the observatory.

For planets, at least - Venus, Jupiter, Saturn - very good with binoculars. A few stars as well, but nebula are hard to see.

Sure, it's a bit tricky because of the two lenses, but you can always look through only one of the eyepieces. The magnification is not nearly as good as with a telescope, though.

I use my binoculars more than my telescope for nighttime star/planet viewing.

Certainly. You can see craters on the moon, the larger satellites of Jupiter, and Saturn's rings. The biggest problem is holding them steady.

thats what they were made for..viewin' the night sky..the sky is much more beautifull up closer in any way
