so i cant turn it off... i tried holding down play and also the sleep button but nothing is working. and also we recently deleted all our songs off itunes so i do not want to use the restore button

Hold down the menu button and the center button at the same time until it resets. Once it resets you should be able to turn it off by holding the play/pause button

it is possible that it is in screen lock. Is there orange button thingy that you slide at the top. If it is then slide it back and it shouldn't show orabge and then hit the play/pause button to turn off

you need to make sure you hold the play/pause button long enough. maybe the switch at the top in on hold. you can tell if you see orange.

Take it out enable the battery drain thoroughly then can charge it decrease back up, this could resolve concern, overcharging can fry the battery, comparable concern got here approximately to my Ipod until now it went kaput, if it does bypass they do sell batteries for it, like $12-25 money. good good fortune

Do you have a Lock button? is it in the orange position, you can change it to unlock.

um...sometime mine does this...is it a nano?
you have to fool around with it a little.
if that doesn't work,call apple. if you have had it less than a year, it still has the warranty that came with it.they can help you out.
