Im curently a freshman in high school but wen school first started i tried out for the varisty high school soccer team and i made it along with my friend. He and I were the only 2 freshman to make the team and the rest of the team was mostly made up of sophmores, juniors and seniors. Standing at 5'11 i was the second shortest kid on the team, with my friend being the shortest yet i hav more speed, way more dribbling skills than anyone else on my team, and a perfect shot over most of my team mates, yet the head coach kept me most of the time on the bench and my friend played more than me even though ((I'm not jealous or ne thing)) he was short and all he had was speed. After the season was over I did some thinking and i did not like the whole 'being on varisty experience' if i went down to JV I know I would get more playing time which is what i want. So next year, should i try out for the Junior Varsity or the Varsity soccer team? *Right now im thinking of trying out for JV*

I know how you feel. I play for a travel team and i'm not the best but i'm a great point gaurd in basketball. But if they know we may louse i play in the last 3 minutes. THATS ALL I PLAY!!! anyway the coach always plays his daughter just because it is his daughter he playes her as point gaurd and the funny thing is SHE STARTED PLAYING LAST YEAR! and now more ppl are playing more and i get less playing time. But enough about me you should not move down you made the team as a FRESHMAN that is hard. you will play more if you stay closer to the coach where he sees you more in practice. also during the game steal and score goals so much if he takes you out he will hurt the team and also giving up isn't the key you need to strive harder GOOD LUCK HOPE U PLAY

Is it the same coach for JV? Maybe the coach has something against you. It would be even worse to sit out for junior varsity.

You gotta play your best, and I'd say varsity. Maybe the first team has graduated now.

Another thing, show yourself in the game. Play after school or off season or something, show the coach you mean business.

Only if it's a different coach at jv, and you can be guaranteed to play, then jv. Otherwise, varsity.

If you're on the varsity as a freshman, dropping to the JV when you're a soph will look like you got demoted.

Why is playing time so important for you? Isn't the most important consideration how much you improve (and how much fun you have)? Do you sit in practice also?

Ask the coach what you have to do during the off-season to get more playing time, then go do it. And play on some other team so you get some PT, but don't neglect your individual improvement drills from your coach.

stick with varsity my brother was in the same not, he wanted to drop down to JV, but the problem is, ur coach knows u are Varsity capability and he knows why u play for JV is to play, and that looks bad...it might seem a little selfish, but if u enjoy playing for varsity and ready to take on the challenge, of course varsity lets u play with older players and with ur stats it wud seem like u cud play college ball. why not challenge urself. that way u will be improving...

i have the exact situation...i am a varsity player at a high school and i never played even though i was ebtter than the otehr freshman....if i was u and based on wat im doing...i would stay for varsity. being a sophmore, the coach will see u more and u have experience.also i am asking my coach of wat to do to get better so i actually play and i did already and he said to me to just keep touch on a ball, keep running, and just play. You will also have people leaving cuz u have seniors on the team so more spots for starting are avaible so i would stay on varsity.......hope this helps...

stick with Varsity. you'll be a sophmore next year and you'll play more. your team probably needed more help at your friend's position. it's more important to practice/play with varsity the whole time then to get more playing time.

trust me.
