yes..yes..yes..when will every Newcastle fan realise that the keegan era is no more the days off challenging for the title are long gone .give Freddy shepherd his due he has always found the money for every manager that has took over but with a list as long as your arm of bad signings i think that we are lucky to be were we are ,but with the exception of the big three is no other team in the premier league that fill there stadium week in week.i think at the moment we just need to clear out the crap(bramble,Carr, emre, duff, luque,)start a fresh and build a team around players like (Taylor, ramage,n'zogbia, milner,Parker, dyer, martins and Owen)

I have never understood why NUFC isn't more successful. It's like they're under some weird jinx. They bring in some very good talent, but the big plans go astray with the injuries. Look at Dyer. He's like a Ferrari. Always in the shop. No sooner do they buy Owen, than, BAM! He folds like an old rug. What a combo that would be, if they could ever get it on the pitch for longer than a match. And why Roeder? Or Bramble? Everytime I watch a Newcastle match, I really feel for the Toon fans, whenever Bramble is any where near the ball. And it must be hard on the players too. Owen can't be feeling all that good about the last three decisions he's made for his career. Now we'll never know how good he really could have been, which is a pity, because I thought he'd shine at Newcastle. The management also spent too many years, building around and relying on Shearer. Any time he was out of the lineup, the team was rubbish. You would think with the local fan base, both NUFC and Sunderland would be riding the wave of top four footie for years. Underachievers? Or under a jinx?

Yes they most certainly are, what I can,t understand is where does this big club thing come from? what constitutes a "big club" is it when a club has won things acca Liverpool, Man. U. Arsenal, Real, Barca etc. if so they don,t qualify there then. Is it big crowds? if so it is only very recently they,ve been getting the sort of crowds they have at the present time , I can remember them with gates of 10 -11,000 but don,t recall the aforementioned proper big clubs with this kind of turnout. O.K. they,ve just won some cup the toe to toe cup or something like that, the day that any of the proper big clubs win this one will be when their fans cease to think they are a big club The Halls and Shephards have had the naive geordies eye balls out. Sorry! but i,m afraid the only big thing I,ve noticed about this mythical "big club" is the beer bellies they seem to take great delight in displaying to all and sundry where ever they go. Oh! I nearly forgot, after dismissing the pub teams from the euafa cup recently the euphoria had to be heard to be believed, this was it, the cup was there for the taking, well! it still is but the geordies won,t be the club taking it, it will probably go to a far smaller club than them. there is one consolation for these disillusioned dick heads though, big is not always beautiful.
Just one final thing,( pardon the pun) can anyone remember any of the proper big club,s fans having to take their beloved club to court to fight to retain seats they thought they had already paid for. Big club my arsenal!

There’s a ridiculous notion that there this mythical massive team with the greatest fans and how they deserve silverwear when they are really just an average team. The fans from outside of Newcastle who support them support them because they want to support a big team but don’t want to be called glory hunters, thus they support Newcastle because they haven’t won anything but might. Before they got to the Premiership their attendances were quite low and not comparable to teams such as Sheffield Wednesday who have found themselves in similar situations. When they made the Premiership the fair-weather fans turned up as did those who support them in the hope that they may win silverwear. They are cocky and arrogant and constantly brag about how great their average team is. They have an over inflated sense of importance.

Money can't buy you a team but it can buy you players. You have to work as a team that achieve things and if you develop the same attitude that most of the club does as a whole then you'll underestimate small teams, which means that they are more likely to lose. If you think your too good and too big and that some teams will just roll-over then your bound to lose matches. Thus, Newcastle haven't done well because of their complacent.

excellent fan base, money always there somehow.
the problem with newc@stle is that they THINK they are a big team, they see everything with rose titnted specs and expect to win every game, fans are the same.
i would not like to guess how much has been spent to win nothing, somehow they find a back door to europe every season.....then they meet a decent team, exit stage left.
injuries should never be an excuse, a good team will have players to step in, the fact is that since keegan went there the media have loved them and built them up so much they actually believe it themselves now.
relegation would probably be the kick up the backside the club needs.

being a sunderland fan i have tried to be objective and have kept my laugh in all the time.

As a Boro fan, working in Sunderland, i get to see this more than most. My best mate is a geordie, and he always comes out with the type of statements that make you cringe. "I fancy Newcastle to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge today, because, although their unbeaten at home in the league since Jose came in, were on a poor run of form and that's not like us, it would be just typical of Newcastle to be the team to beat them" ARRRRGGGHHHH! you have a poor team, poor manager, fickle supporters, a chairman with more money than football sense, a history of paying big money for mediocre names and ENDING THEIR CAREERS!
You won the Inter toto cup, the first silverware in nearly 40 years! where does this over inflated view of themselves come from? No other fans of any other club have a widespread high opinion of themselves. I am surprised Alan Shearer was able to play on so long, his back must have been killing him carrying the rest of the team for so long. Newcastle United are at a similar standing as the likes of Reading, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Man City, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Fulham, Wigan, Everton and MIDDLESBROUGH. any of the above could get European football, but also just as easily get relegated. Get a grip, for a change take off your black and white tinted glasses when watching them and see what everyone else see's.

NEWCASTLE 1 v BIRMINGHAM 5

AZ ALKMAAR 2 v NEWCASTLE 0

Even boro got a result against them in UEFA cup in November 2005.

I'll hand my soapbox over now...thank-you

yes they spend there money unwisely unlike teams with less money they just splash there money out on players they dont need like upfronts instead of buying defense and thats what they need there fans arent that loyal becasue when newcastle was having a poor start of the season they only had half the fans they normally get which proves to me they aint loyal and you would think with all the money they have they would at least make it into the top 6 in prem but they dont just shows fototball aint all about money

I am a fellow geordie and agree with you about them under acheiving. The manager hasnt got a clue and the team doesnt gel. We have had alot of injury which I put down mainly to the fact that the Newcastle training staff overwork them. But we are going to get there

Come on the toon

As a football fan, I think whatever New Castle delivers is not what they deserve as they have some great players.

What I think is lacking at this club is that the team management needs to realize this is a very big club which deserve a world class coach not just someone who's there to keep them safe from the relegation but of course they need to compete for the trophies.

Thanx!

FTM!!!

Wrong manager, wrong people in charge, lack of any decent signings, incredible fanbase is the only thing keeping newcastle as a big club in the premiership.

Not only the biggest underacheivers but also the biggest joke

Sooner they realise that they arent as great as they think they are the better off they'll be!
