New Mexico is wonderful, especially if you like art and a diverse culture. It has 19 Indian pueblos, part of the Navajo nation and 2 Apache tribes. Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in the U.S. with the Palace of the Governors, the oldest church and wonderful museums. Albuquerque is about 1 hour south of Santa Fe and you can fly in there. Albuquerque is about 550,000 people and is also very fun with lots of museums and good night life around the University. You can visit White Sands National Park, Carlsbad Caverns and lots of old Indian ruins like Chaco Canyon. The scenery in New Mexico is breathtaking--you can see forever. Lots of mountains. The highest elevation is about 13,000 feet and the lowest about 4000' so it always cools off at night. If you an outdoors type person, or like art, New Mexico is unlike any place else I've ever been. It's like visiting a foreign country without leaving the states. Oh, any one more thing, the food is also completely unique and wonderful. Prices are inexpensive.

Southern Utah - lots of beautiful scenery, bike riding, whitewater rafting, hiking, 4wheeling, so much to do! It gets insanely hot in the summer tho - spring and fall are the best times to go.
