even windows xp doent come with a usb mass storage device driver... unless you have service pack 2... go to http://www.microsoft.com and download it...

What operating system are you using? Anything earlier than Windows 2000 will probably need the drivers loaded from a CD, if the manufacturer supports that OS.

For Windows XP or a Mac, it should be recognized automatically, just make sure the connection is physically secure and maybe try a different USB port.

Also, some of the old Lexar CompactFlash jumpdrives are only visible when there's actually a CF card inserted, the computer doesn't even see them as attached when they're empty.
