How was he acting prior to you taking his photo?
Not only am I a Licensed Veterinary Technician, but I also had a hamster that had gone blind. Take a look at his eyes...are they a uniform "dark" color?... Do they appear pale or cloudy?...Does he respond to your presence even when your not touching him?...If you change his cage around (such as where you place his exercise wheel or food), does he run into these things or have difficulty finding them?
Cataracts or glaucoma can cause a cloudy appearance to the eye(s). In my personal case, my hamster developed glaucoma and was put on an eye ointment. Glaucoma, which is an abnormally high ocular (eye) pressure, can be painful. The ointment helped a great deal to make him more comfortable, however it didn't help him regain his site.
If he continues to appear "blind," then I would definitely take him to your Veterinarian.

It's right to be a little concerned. I've never had a hamster or anything, but I have horses, and my late mare had one blind eye. It was blueish-yellow in color, and milky. But this is advanced blindness, and just the eye deteriorating. If your pet is acting blind, it could easily be temporary from the flash. But you can still watch for cloudiness or milkiness. Be sure to get to the vet if he continues to show signs of being unable to see. If there is a problem, the vet will probably give you eyedrops, which can't be too hard to put in a hamster's eye. I did this for my mare, when she had an infection in her good eye. Otherwise, he should be just fine. Don't get too worked up, as it probably is nothing, but its good to see you still worried. Good luck!

I certainly would be concerned. You can't tell just by looking. Cloudiness is caused by cataracts. I know I get blinded by the flash of a camera, but never for that long. There should be a vet in the yellow pages that deals with small/exotic pets that could answer your question. It can't hurt to give them a call.

no you have not harmed his sight. Just think next time before doing something that silly though!! Hamsters are partially blind anyway and rely much more on sound and smells. He sounds pretty happy to me and over his little shock! They are small creatures, but more resiliant than we give them credit for, so please dont worry.
