I'm making a windbreaker sort of jacket with a polyurethane outer shell. Would a regular fabric store (Hancock, Jo-Ann) carry this? If not, where would I be able to purchase a couple of yards?

They might have it, sold as raincoat material or marine fabric, or even in the home dec section with the tablecloth material.

In Maine we have a lot of mill end and fabric wholesale stores. You could google around in your area and see if there's someplace like that.

I think you are looking for polyvinyl fabric. Polyurethane is a finish for woods and is a liquid. You may need to order this on-line unless you have somewhere like Fabric Place. It's not likely to be found at Jo-Anne's or Hancock's. Fabric Place is on-line as well.

Yes, large fabric stores carry what you are looking for. It comes in a larger width than regular fabric. Look for it in the upholstery section.
