Definately Pokerstars.net. It is hands down the best site for that sort of thing on the net. If you live in the US it is almost impossible to gamble for real money, because of the new restrictions put on the Online Casino sites by this administration's "Anti-Terror" Policies. Pokerstars is fun, easy, and addictive, with tons of real people playing at full online tables 24 hours a day. You're allowed a fairly liberal amount of free chips around the clock. Most of all I like the way the program is actually set up. Everything about it is far superior to other sites of it's kind.

There is probably no best place to play poker free online.
It's just a matter of your preference.
I would go and check out several sites and decide which one you like that best.
That said. Fult Tilt Poker isn't a bad place and neither is poker.com, or Dream Poker. Just to give you a few places as starting points.

It depends on what type of poker you want to play; all of the sites offer limit and no-limit hold'em, but for harder to find games you may have to search a bit. (For example, PokerStars and Full Tilt are the only ones I know of that offer Triple Draw)
PokerStars is generally considered to have the best software, though, and the best customer support. Since PartyPoker quit accepting US players for real money, Stars is also the biggest poker site.

All of the major sites offer free play money poker. I suggest you pick from these reviews. You can try them all, it won't cost a penny.
