Native Son and Black Boy by Richard Wright, anything by Maya Angelou, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and the Colour Purple are all good books I read in my Black literature course.

Roots by Alex Haley was a great read. I also enjoyed reading Kyle Onstott's Falconhurst series - Mandingo, Drum and Falconhurst Fancy. These books all center around slavery.

Anything by Toni Morrison, she won a nobel prize in 1988 for Beloved. It deals with black identity a bit, but anyone can relate to it. You might also try Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston.

For me, the best novel was from Richard Wright, the "Black Boy." It should be a film, great story, great characters. It is sad but it is enjoying.

Read it, you may like it.
