I know deer can be a real problem for gardens, veggie and flower even if they are cute critters. One suggestion that has worked for me is to take some bar soap that has been used, put it in an old pair of panty hose and hang them in bushes around the yard. Also next time you get a hair cut, save the hair and do the same thing. These both have human scent on them and might help deter the deer from coming into the yard.

I have to laugh at the answers so far. The one person to give a good answer (Replant or Motion Sensor) got 2 thumbs down. Ah I see there is the suggestion for human hair and soap. That is not bad either.

My original thought was the motion detector sprinkler. They are available at Home Depot for a reasonable price.

You can also get scents (most likey from a feed store) Buy something like wolf and that should keep the deer out.

You can buy different repellents in granular & liquid form. The cost of 16 ounces of liquid which you can spray around the areas where the deer are coming in is around $15 or $20.

There's a website called "deerbusters.com" that stocks a number of repellent devices. Check it out & see what would work best for your situation.

Another less-than-civil method is to urinate in the general area where the deer enter. This is a bit crude I'll admit; however, I've known people who have controlled similar situations effectively by doing this. (And it costs alot less than buying repellents).

I read an article somewhere along the way, about certain ornamental plants that deer don't like, I can't remember which ones, but you might be able to look them up....I don't wish to be indelicate, but I have heard that you could keep them out by "marking your territory", I can't say if that would help or not, I have never seen fit to run them out of my own yard...

for some reason this question confuses me. are you saying you have a fenced in yard with a gate that doesn't work? is the deer stuck inside the fenced area? is the deer visiting? lol

anyway, no suggestions, except to get rid of compost pile or fruit bearing trees, or grass or pine cones or corn or ... you get my drift.

fix the gate.

hey, here is a thought...pee around the perimeter

you can buy deer repellant also if you live where the winds blows during the night and day at walmart you can buy these things the have a magnatized bottom and you're suppose to put them on your cars bumper but anyway when the wind blows through these things it makes a sound that makes the deer go away it keeps you from hitting them while driving.

Get rid of what is attracting them to your yard - edibles. Find some way to close that opening, however, they do jump. Also, check with the DEC on this. There may be some sort of repellent you can use in the yard.

To EMPE - deer are wild animals lady, not pets. Get real. See how much trouble you get in with the DEC by trying to make them into pets.

There are deer repellant plants, motion sensor sprinkler heads that blast them when they come into the yard, and i think some chemicals that can be applied around the perimeter of the yard. Try doing a search for deer repellant.

Monsanto makes "Hinder" it works.
find a farmer that will sell you 8 or so ounces of concentrate.
the hair will work, but only till it gets wet a few times.
if all else fails , give them something more interesting to amuse themselfs with. preferably somewhere removed from where they are now.
creatures of extream habit , have your number, they know your habits / schedules / and probably your SS# by now from the sounds of it.
:)
