everyone always expects people who listen to music like that to be evil satin worshipers. were not. were perfictly normal people who like to listen to music. :] your boy will be fine. you may get headachs from the music, so keep advil around :]

sorry if you dont want advice from a 14 year old but truly, were just normal teenagers :]

my mother hates my kind of music. she thinks its a bad thing to listen to. just remember to respect your boys taste in music and things will be great. my mother always makes fun of and puts down my music and its making our relationship difficult because she cant get threw to me. she doesnt care about anything i care about.
so try to care :]
good luck

A love of metal is only going to turn off the girls who arent right for you :P And if girls keep getting put off my you, most likely it's not because of your love of metal, it's because of some other trait about you (to be honest), or if it is about metal it would have to be you're spending way to much time with music, and not enough with her. But really if a girl cant handle you having outside passions from her, as long as you still spend a good amount of time with her, then she's not ready for a relationship. And some girls find metal guys insanely attractive, the whole rockstar type thing. But it honestly boils down to other things like your insecurities or sadly sometimes looks that will push a girl away. That's why you may get a gf who leaves you soon after. And you never know what's going on in a girls life to why she doesnt like/want you. Example, like I love metal and such, but I keep getting tons of metal guys or guys in bands liking me, my friend pointed out to me that they were all band guys, and so one of the last ones i was so sick of it that I felt like banging my head off of the wall. When if that had been just one of the first ones, I wouldnt have been like that. Also I need a guy who's into metal and music for sure, but he's got to have other passions/interests for us to work. So maybe that's the case for the girls you've liked too. Hope this helps mate!

Well if your son is into Death Metal then he might get into different kinds of metal music..such as Power, Doom, Speed, Heavy, Melodic and other types. There is nothing wrong with the music hes listening to, and hopefully he understands that the lyrics are basically for entertainment value, and the band's themselves aren't into all what they are write. If hes really into the music and loves the metal scene, and he thinks he feels like he belongs in that, then it wont be a phase. It's nothing to really worry about. Just support what he listens to and not judge it. because music is music and it's just something where people can feel at ease and just relax to it.

paulieseeds and silentdave - you never ever met a metalhead in your lives, have you? You're just full of prejudice.

I don't think you can just automatically expect some radical changes if your kid likes a certain type of music. Death metal can be a great mean of relieving violence and frustration that would otherwise result in a destructive behavior.
If he's not hanging out with weird friends who do drugs and alco, then you needn't be worried. It's the people who ruin people's lives, not music.

I had a lot of trouble when i first got into metal music, in school teacher hated me and waved me away thinking, oh, another one of those weirdos, I'll sit back and watch they fail the exams... They were sometimes downright rude to me.
Imagine their jaw hit the floor when I graduated as the top of my year.
I don't think personal taste in music is a reason to worry. Don't annoy your son about his music. Let him have it. There's no better way to alienate your children than to forbid them to do something they really like.

If the music disturbs you, talk to him nicely, ask him if he could keep it slightly quieter or maybe play it in the time when you're not resting... Just be patient. He'll probably grow out of it.

I'm 30 years old, I spent six years in the US ARMY and now am a security officer. I go to school full time for a better career. I have listened to every kind of Metal music there is since I was only 12 and I do to this day. Do not let people bully you into thinking this will make him a bad person. The only thing that can make him a bad person is him. He makes his choices. You only need to guide him along and help where needed.

I'm a teenage girl and I listen to death metal, but I get all A's and most adults love me. I have friends that like death metal but are druggie drop outs. I also have friends that love country and are along the lines of druggie drop outs. It doesn't matter what kind of music we like, you should expect the unexpected either way! haha.

don't expect anything. he may be using death metal music as a way to express himself - or maybe he's just into the music.
some people think that because we listen to metal it's why we become angry - well it's the other way around. we listen to metal to relieve stress and anger.

maybe something great will come out of this and he will ask you to buy him a guitar or something & start playing some music & find something that really intrests him. and something he can turn to in need. i know music has always been there for me.

it takes intelligence to create metal music. with complicated riffs, and difficult timing & of course the knowledge of how to play the instrument, metal is very complex to learn/play. if you don't believe me - just ask & i'll send you part of my homework.

im sorry if this sounds mean but you need to be less ignorant to his beliefs. listening to his music is a healthy of expressing his emotions. i know personally, thats why i turn to music. and you shouldn't judge him or look at him any differently because of his taste in music. some kids really hate that & just take it as their parents don't understand them.

besides. he could listen to rap & then one day join a gang. what's worse?

peace & love

It depends. Do you trust him to make good decisions? Has he started acting out of the ordinary? Has he started treating you differently? If all that has changed is his music, don't worry. It's just music. If you notice anything else, talk to him. Tell him your concerns. He might be able to put your mind to rest. Don't shut down communication, be open and available at all times--even if it is at a "bad time". With any luck, It's just a phase.

You have nothing to worry about unless he grows up to be Jack Black. Then it would be really embarrassing seeing your 30-40 year old son dancing around on the stage of SNL singing Rock and Rolls songs like a crazy wannabe.

I would let him go listen to his music as long as its not earth shattering loud. He could be like most kids and grow out of it. Most death metal bands have a clean cd out (atleast the ones I know of) if your worried about the swearing and inapproprate language.
