The doctor has prescribed oral antibiotics and eye drops. I'm afraid that this will cause eye problems.

It is perfectly normal. The meds are safe for your baby. My doctor told me to wet down a clean washcloth and gently rub the tear duct in the morning and night to loosen the block. You might want to try that to prevent this in the future.

Blocked tear ducts are fairly common. If you're breastfeeding, at each feeding, put a drop or two of breastmilk in each eye and massage the baby's eye area - close to the bridge of the nose. This should help clear it up. (I know it sounds wacky, but the doctors I work for swear by it!)

It actually is quite common thing to happen in newborns. Give your baby what the doctor prescribed and your baby should get better soon. Good luck!

My baby had it within our first few days home from the hospital. We had to do the eye ointment, but not the oral anitbiotics. It was so hard putting the ointment in, but we did it. It cleared up within a couple days. He hasn't had any problems with his eyes since. Good luck.

Don't worry it is really pretty common and usually it fixes itself down the road. Very rarely do you have to medically intervene. Just keep up to date with your pediatrician.
