The hamster was already pregnant when you got her and was ready to deliver at that time, if you didn't house her with a male yourself. The gestation for a Russian dwarf is 18-21 days. When she had gotten pregnant for the second time, she can carry then for up to 10 days longer for a total gestation time of up to 28-31 days if she had milk in her from the first litter. Another possibility is that she miscarried some of the litter and ended up carrying the rest for an additional time. We had a cat miscarry two kittens and 3 weeks later gave birth to a third kitten, that also ended up dying, sadly. We even had her vet checked and given medicine to shrink her womb faster. But somehow this one survived, even if was only for a short time after being born.
A dwarf hamster is able to become pregnant within 24 hours of giving birth. She may have even given birth at the pet store the day you got her and another male impregnated her that fast. How long after you got her was the first litter born?
Was she in a cage with a male beforee you put her in her own cage by any chance? If this was the case, then she got pregnant right away befor you had a chance to separate them. By the way how are these three babies doing now, I hope they survived. Between 5-7 days you can lower the water bottle or put a solid shelf with ramp up to it for the babies. They also may start eating the small seeds from the bowl. Around 3-4 weeks they will begin to wean, now they can be separated into male/female cages. I'm leery of putting baby males in with dad once he has been removed, since I've had a dad kill a baby when placed together. Russian dwarf adults are territorial over young ones and may attack them. Theis goes for females not housed together before. Some people like to find new homes for the babies at this time, but I wait until the babies are 6-8 weeks only so I can work with socializing them and it gives them extra time for growth and maturity.

Here's a few links from one site to help you with raising the babies and with your dwarfs.

You said she has been alone for three weeks? If she was with a male prior to this, then she was impregnated before you separated them. Their gestation period is about 18 to 21 days, and they can get pregnant again within a day after giving birth. I would assume that she got pregnant right after she gave birth the last time, and even though you seperated her after her baby's died, she was already pregnant again.

According to my information they can get pregnant right after having babies. They need no time in between. They can have babies every 3 weeks. If you had her in a cage with a male when she conceived the first litter.he got her right after.Heres a website on the complete guide to hampsters: www.geocities.com/pets_hampsters/index.html Good luck with the new litter.=-)

some animals can actually choose when to become pregnant. the armadillo i believe can do it. at least i think that is the animal. it can mate and wait up to like 4 years before having babies if conditions arent right. maybe hamsters can too

there is no chance she had three in the chute for a month, she was probably pregnant when you moved her into her own cage
