yesterday at work i went to seat these 3 big men,and we go by rotation and it happend to be this servers turn who had taken tables by other guests or had dirty tables, the table i took them to fit 4 people but the men complained they were squished and wanted to move and pointed to the dirty table that needed to be wiped,so i took them there and told them "i just have to wipe it down" and a sever passing by me saw me doing this and then i saw him talking to the server that was going to be serving on the 3 big men ,later that server confronted me and asked why i had sat her guests in a dirty table and i told her i didn't, and there was more to the story-now i had taken crap from other servers all day and that was the last straw- now i think i know who told and it bugs me b/c the guy that told on me didn't even know the facts and ran his mouth..so i confront him

I have this problem all the time! they dont know ANYTHINg and decide that they need to butt in and make things worse for us. Being a hostess sucks. My boss always tells me this: the servers are NOT your bosses and it really doesnt matter what the hell they think of you. So i think you should give him a piece of your mind. explain everything that happened and tell him you didnt appreciate his crap. good luck

My recommendation....let it go! I see no reason for defending yourself. These men wanted a bigger table and you gave it to them. So what is the big deal....they were willing to wait for it to be cleaned and that was cool with them. Don't sweat the small stuff...besides my theory is that work is like a high school...somebody....somewhere along the lines is going to end up talking sh*t about something they don't know anything about.
If you are truly upset by this...quietly defend yourself to your manager....his opinion is the only one that matters. You know you pleased those customers...and thats that!!!
