GOLD FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A dog that is very calm and quiet could be fine, but dogs can be unpredictable and they aren't always gentle.
Cats wouldn't come up and bother the baby, but if the baby tried to pick one up the wrong way, it could hurt the cat or the cat might bite the baby in an attempt to get away.
Rabbits are sometimes hard to clean up after, but would probably be nice to the baby.
Hamsters probably aren't a good idea. They are too small, and the baby could hurt them or get them stuck somewhere they shouldn't be.
Fish would be a great pet, because they can have a calming effect, and the baby, as they grow up, will find it very interesting to watch the fish swim around.
I hope I helped! Happy shopping!

I did that - baby and new pet. I don't recommend it. Wait to have the baby first. After a few months or so - then you can think about if you have time to devote to both the new baby and a new pet. It is like having twins! But the new pet is like a 2 year old!

She could probly do with waiting, her worlds about to turn upside down (in a good way oviously) the last thing shes gunna wanna worry bout is making sure the pets waterd and fed.

But when she is ready and not having sleepless nights.

Maybe she should look into having a house rabbit? Easy to look after, cheap to keep and wont harm the baby (well unless she ends up with the same one on the monty python sketch!)

Or maybe a cat?

Hope all goes well for her!!

She should probably wait untill after the baby is born to get any animals. Once the baby is born the animal isnt going to get the same amount of attention, and the animal needing care is just going to add stress to caring for a baby.
Cats, by the way, do not intentionally harm babies. If a baby gets hurt by a cat, it's usually just the cat being themselves. The cats are used to being able to lay on people, so they don't realize that the baby can get hurt, they're also attracted to the baby by the scent of warm milk. Dachounds are not docile animals either. They are very jumpy and very protecive of thier owners and can become jealouse and agressive to the new addition.
I strongly recommend to wait untill after the baby is born, then see how things go.

Fish. They cant harm the baby in any way and when the baby gets a bit older he/she will be amazed by them. My son loves our fish tank and he is 7 months old and has showed some interest in it for quite some time now. We also have cats but I dont think they are as ideal as fish because sometimes they want to cuddle with the baby and if you have a tempermental cat they may bite or claw the child.

Tell your friend to wait to get a pet. She's nesting right now, and the baby will change the dynamics of the home a lot on its own, she won't need the added stress of a new pet.

Or, as Just Me recommended, fish.

I would get a small dog so your child and the dog can bond but if you want something less needy, then I recommend a rabbit. They are always great for any circumstances.
If your worried, then wait to get a pet or just get an aquarium.

Older dogs who have been around children are the best. Most people want to get a puppy to raise with the baby, but will only end up with tow infants to potty train and one "infant" who is extremely excitable with sharp little teeth. Cats are not good unless they have been declawed only because of the disease they carry on their claws from the litter box (toxiplasmosis).

No pets until the baby is a child.

hmmmm...best would probably be a small dog... not agressive. poodles are good because even if the child has allergies the poodles hair doesnt shed so.
or other pets like fish, small rodents.
