Because the African people that this money helps have no way of helping themselves.

A lot of the projects helps support children who have lost both parents to AIDS and set up schools and food programs for them. Educating this generation is the only way of helping this nation in the long run.

To be able to do this it is necessary to rely on the generosity of Britain.

Not all the money goes to Africa though, some is spent here helping people with mental health issues and disabilities.

They don't have the money to help themselves. That's the whole point. The World Bank has seen to that. Look at moron Mugabe, or the warring factions that rule the other desperately poor African nations. It's not the people's fault they're ruled by dictators who squander the nations' resources.
Just try to think how you would feel if you were born into poverty in a Zimbabwean village. You'd want some rich westerner (you, me) to help you, or not?

Look at whats happening in Zimbabwe this week Morgan Changuri was tortured because he wanted join a prayer meeting. Robert Mugabe blames the British Government for whats happening in his country when we all know that Robert Mugabe threw the white farmers off their land and then let the land rot. Zimbabwe used to be know as the bread basket of Africa. I am a firm believer that charity begins at home the people of Africa get enough help from our goverments. I am a firm supporter of Children in Need thats the only charity I give to every year.

Hooray someone on my wavelenght. Countries like Kenya make millions from tourism but have some of the worse slums in the world. Charity begins at home in my opinion.

Ask Heather and Paul to put 1/3 of their money to donate. It's not healthy for an individual to hold onto such a large sum of money. They wouldn't be able to spend it up in their life time anyway.

It's a bit of fun and focuses attention on charities and eases the conscience of those who are doing well.I agree about Africa though I don't think they are capable of helping their selves

lot's of the money from comic relief is used in ways that will teach them how they can look after themselves, such as, they may provide farming equiptment so that people can grow food for themselves, I personally think it's worthwhile
