That is actually a really good question!! When we get pregnant, one of the first things our body does is "protect" the baby, so what happens is our body "seals off" any openings, mucus builds up in the cervix forming a "plug". This plug will start coming out when it is time for the baby to be born. It will look pink and then bloody. Inducing labor is done by either giving you drugs to bring on labor (usually pitocin) or by breaking your water.
I hope this helps you. Good Luck!

Your mucus plug is more commonly known as your "water". When your water breaks, it means that you will probably go into labor soon or you already have. I'm sure you've heard horror stories about people's water breaking in stores and what not. This is actually very rare. If you have to be induced for labor, the doctor gives you the pitocin, which makes your labor start. It's a small pill that he inserts as close to your cervix as possible. This will happen if your pregnancy continues past 41 or 42 weeks and you still have not gone into labor naturally, or if you have complications and need to deliver early. It is also given sometimes if your labor is not progressing quickly enough. I'm on my second pregnancy now, and I was very clueless my first! Never be afraid to ask questions even if you think they might be silly!

Induced means your doctor gives you medication that causes your uterus to contract before its ready to do it naturally. Some times they have to do this because you go too far over your due date and the risk to the baby is too great.

The mucus plug is a plug of thick gel like mucus that sits inside the cervix between it and the bag of waters. It acts as a seal between the womb and the outside world. As your cervix thins and dilates it slips out, either all together with a bloody show, or in pieces over the course of a few weeks or days.

Well the mucus plug is a thick gooey stuff that plugs the opening of your cervix and when you lose your mucus plug it usually means you will be going into labor soon. To be induced, the Dr. usually gives you a medicine called pitosin that causes your body to go into labor. or sometimes they will use a tool to break your water which will also force your body to go into labor.

The mucus plug is an accumulation of cervical secretions, that form throughout pregnancy to block the cervix and deter the passage of bacteria into the uterus.

To be induced is when the doc. provokes or brings on the labor in the way of pitocin (medication) and or breaks your water manually...

Good luck...........
