Will be travelling to Hanoi in May. I want to find travel companions for day trips out of Hanoi to places like Halong Bay and Sapa. Then can also get group discounts.

I'm not looking for hanky panky. But I just want to know the best ways to get to know people, so that we could book the day trips together rather than going at it alone.

It's hard to find travel companions who have the exact itinerary that you really want. My recommendation is to contact a tour company and by guided group tours from them. One of such company is the Hanoi Tourist Service Company or Hanoi Toserco (email hanoitoserco@hn.vnn.vn, website http://www.tosercohanoi.com/ )

By booking at least one of those tours, you'll have ready-made travel companions on the trip among whom you can find companions for other trips which can then be booked with group discounts!

WARNING: It's dangerous to get hooked up online. You never know what motives a guy may have. Use the tour company and check out potential companions over there in Hanoi, in person.

Pick a friend that is positive minded. If you have a friend that makes you laugh and who has a positive outlook, they might be your best bet. Think of those days where you might be trapped indoors due to a tropical rainstorm. You want someone who doesn't moan and groan and who can keep things light. Choose a travel companion with the same interests. If you like non-stop adventure and fun, don't choose a travel companion that wants to sink deep into the history of Rome or who wants to stop by every museum in France. Choose someone who has the same interests as you and who enjoys the same type of activities. If you like to party until the wee hours of the morning, choose a travel buddy who is up for all the craziness!

If just go as your travel companion, then I can go with you. Never been in VN, so I'm curious. But remember we can go together just "as a companion only"...that means no hanky, panky, that means you cannot touch me inappropriately or attack me when I'm asleep. If you agree to this term, then I will be gladly to accommodate you on the trip to Hanoi as a companion.
