It definitely helps playing in one of the biggest leagues in the world with some of the best players in the world. I am not going to say it is limited to this alone, but it definitely helps.

Europe has a lot of great players so it's obvious that playing there would make you a better player. But it's not only because Europeans are the best at soccer. How many players from other countries and continents do we have that play in Europe? A lot! It's all the players and leagues there that are beneficial to becoming a better player.

Within europe, different leagues have different styles. The english leagues are very physical and fast. The Italian league has less scoring but is very technical. If you're with a top club and can play in the club championships
( champions league or UEFA cup ) you can really grow as a player by being confronted by all these different styles.
Another plus is that on one team you may find french, italians, danes, australians, americans, west africans all playing together.

If you play in Europe, I think your talent definitely gets a chance to be more showcased and recognized, rather than if you played in a league like the MLS. You definitely don't have to be confined to just playing in European Leagues, but if you do you definitely get more fame, since European footy is followed all over the world.
