Yes, it happens all the time.
One of my (still) best friends from college is a woman who fell in love with me, and I love her as well - as a friend.
I think to some women, perhaps unconsciously, gay men are "safe" and can seem to be more considerate and empathethic than the average straight man.
Sometimes you just can't choose ahead of time with whom you will fall in love. :o)
