Depends on what aspect of IT. If you're on a help desk, having a friendly manner and a customer service attitude (plus knowledge). If you're in the field, knowledge and professionalism.
If you're programming, being able to keep to schedule, have attention to quality and detail, and have good logic skills.
If you're doing consulting, professionalism and communication skills.

well, it depends on what you mean by IT. Its a really wide sphere actually. You could be a programmer or an network administrator. And both of these jobs are totaly different.
