This is not a easy questions. A lot of teams have improved or equalized their respective divisions. However, I would pick the Dodgers in the NL and the Red Sox in the AL. I would give the nod to Boston with more complete players, power, and slightly better pitching. Plus they will be battle tested having to play the Yankees all year who are probably the 3rd or 4th best team in baseball. The Sox also have a better Manager and more experiece.
This all comming from a Cardinals fan.

There are only 4 teams that are even competing for this top honor of being the world series champion: The Yankees, the Red Sox, the Tigers, and the Cubs.
The Yankees: With all of the money that they spend every single year it is hard for them to never be in contention. Even if the year starts out poorly, they have the resources to make moves at the trade deadline like they did last year, bringing in Abreu to help out a injured team. However, the starting rotation is flakey at best, so it is most probable that even with Mariano Rivera, the best closer in the game, in the bullpen, the Yankees will not win the world series.
The Tigers: Still living off of last years push towards a title, made a very smart move in trading for Sheffield. His bat should help their lineup tremendously. They are a serious contender, and could easily be seen in the big game if pitchers like Bonderman and Verlander take their pitching up one notch to the level of oswalt and carpenter.
The Red Sox: This starting pitching rotation looks to be like either the best or the worst in the league. With the signing of Daisuke Matsuzaka, and the return of Jonathon Lester and Jonathon Papelbon to the lineup, this will be a scary team to face. However, every pitcher on that team has a big chip on their shoulder, and could end up at the bottom of the bucket half way through the season.
The Cubs: They have spent the money. They have the people. Now they just need some luck. If (A big if) their pitching staff can stay healthy (Cough...Prior and Wood...Cough) and Soriano doesn't act like a 5 year old child this season, the Cubs could be in the thick of things in October.
My prediction: Red Sox vs. Cubs world series. Red Sox in 5 games

Given the young new pitching of the Red Sox, i think they have a lagitamate shot. Dicesuaka Matsuaka is highly regaraded as the best pitcher in Japan and Papelbon is supposed to be moving to the rotation. We've done a lot of work to build our fielding in the off season and if we arent plagued by injury again, no one in the AL will be able to touch us... including the Yankees

Red Sox will win the WS. They have the best rotation. That includes Schilling, Dice-K, Beckett, Papelbon and Wakefield. Also their lineup has improved greatly from last year. I definitely see them winning the World Series.

If Andrew and Chipper remain healthy, Francouer and the others produce, They have a shot. The two main keys for the Braves is for Smoltz and the starters to remain healthy, keep the games close, give the offense a chance to score, and for the bullpen to give up little or no runs.

It,s definitly going to be the Twins. As long as those talented young bats continue to improve, and Torii breaks out of his two year slump it,s as close to a lock as you can get. They have the best overall pitching and feilding in the majors. Hands down. Forget about the yanks, bosox, mets, and dodgers. 200 million dollar payrolls dont win championships. Too many selfish personalitys.
