The wind is only just picking up here now.....lancashire.....but the last time it was really windy, they closed the school where my friends little boy goes - the roof was starting to lift off in the wind and slates were hitting the school windows from the houses opposite. Fingers crossed it snow heavily this weekend and we get a proper day to go sledging.

We in the UK don't have bad weather but our Met office say the weather is going to be "very bad" this weekend starting Sunday Evening. I guess "very bad" means it will get cold and rainy and some parts will also get some snow. London should be lucky to get any snow!!

Closing schools may not be a good idea as some children from poorer families may not be able to keep themselves warm. School is the only place where they can keep themselves warm and perhaps get warm food as well.

Hope this helps.

Schools are far too soft, close for anything. This country gets snow and bad weather so it should be prepared for it. When I was at school we had to go no matter what, once when the heating broke down, we all hoped we would be sent home, no such luck though we were told to go and put our coats on.

I live in Alaska where the weather is severe. We hardly ever get "snow days" here. But then we are prepared for it.

My brother got out early today. Usually they close schools if it would be potentially dangerous for anyone who drives home. It is usually due to road conditions.

I think it's more for the teachers not been able to make it than the kids. Most teachers don't live near the school that they teach at, if they don't make it to work because of car trouble etc then the kids would get to school and run riot because there's no-one there to teach them!

I am in sheffield and we didn't see bad weather, it was cold this afternoon and threatened rain, but it's only just started. It has turned cold though.
