Depends on the gene that the adult carry. Horrible with the spelling but there are 3 color gene
Trebino, overo and one other one but I can not remember. One means that they have the color gene but are solid the other means that they might throw color and the then one mean they are guaranteed to throw color.
Added: the girl above me has the third one that I could not remember!!!
I use to have Quarter Horse Paints and breed a couple of times but that was long ago. I am sorry I could not be of more help but the color will depend on the genes that the male and female carry

It depends. Is the mare a tobiano or overo? Same with the sire. Most tobiano to tobiano crosses will give you a 75% chance of another tobi, and about 25% for a solid or overo. Overo is trickier. You get 50% for a paint, 50% for a solid colored colt. And you can never really predict how much or how little white a colt will have. My quarter horse mare will throw a lot of color on minimal white stallions and not much on loud colored ones. You just breed for quality and hope for color. Good Luck!

It depends on whether the parents are tobiano or overo or tovero. The tobiano gene is dominant but whether your foal gets it or not depends on whether one or both of the parents are heterozygous for the gene. Overo is not caused by one gene but by several and the inheritence is not as easy to predict. The problem is that several spotting factors now broken out as sabino, frame overo and splash white had previously been lumped together. They're now broken out and studied genetically for their inheritence for their patterns.
You can get an excellent description of the patterns and genetics here http://www.apha.com/breed/geneticeq.html

the only way you can be 99.9% a color foal is if the sire is a homozigus they usually put that in writing if you dont get a color foal you can have a free breeding.I bred my chestnut & white mare to a blk & wht homozigus & I got a tri color brn, blk,& wht.shes very flashy

depends on the types-overro or tobiano? Was one homozygous? 2 paints-more than likelyy won't produce a solid
