That's a great question because Sanjaya is easily the worst singer on the show right now, and has been ever since hollywood week started in my opinion. If you ask me, I think that people are voting for him for one of two reasons:
One, they liked how when he made it onto the show and his sister didn't, he went over to cry with his sister instead of celebrating. Probably not the greatest reason to vote for someone, as it is a singing competition.
And two, they simply feel bad for gay people.
But no I don't think it's his family buying him in.

Interesting theory. I didn't know they were rich but I have wondered how he has made it to the finals. Still, he did get the second to lowest ratings this week so it's likely he'll get bumped out next week. He's an okay performer with the right song and right setting--it's just that he doesn't have that "it" to make it to the top, as many of the past season's finalist have proven to be true. You'd think you'd hear more than the winner on the radio but not so.
