On a scale of 1-10 I will give this movie 9.9. It will be well worth seeing if only once again to remind us of the story of the 300 Spartans who died defending Greece and thus the Western world from an attack by the mighty army of Persia.
The story of Greece and Persia is very complex. At one stage the Spartans, not known for their naval prowess, nevertheless, somehow managed to create a navy of awesome power. This navy was ultimately defeated by the Athenians with the aid of the Persians. It's all a bit mixed up really and not nearly as straight forward as it seems.
Classical Greek history is played out on a magnificent stage over many centuries [acts]. The Greeks themselves were not really very interested in the "west" and had an envious eye always on the "east". To this end, Alexander conquered most of the "east" as far "east" as the Punjab in Northern India.
If you listen to modern Greek music today, you can easily detect the "eastern" influence in it. Much of this comes from the fact that Greece was part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire.
We must however, always give the Greeks credit where it is due. Much of their thinking, their philisophy, science, mathematics comes down to us today. We even stole words from them to make our own English language look clever. Here's a few : -
catastophe, theatre, arithemetic, athlete, gymnasium, prognosis, diagnosis, thorax, democracy, history, theology, geography, geology, echo, drama...and about 500 more.
Thanks then to the 300 Spartans - we will remember them.

I was really excited to see it! I saw it this past weekend, and while it was GREAT it wasn't a 10. I would say a 7 out of 10. Great grapics, scenes, etc. but a bit boring at times.

I already saw it on opening day last Friday. I thought it was the best film of the year and I can't imagine how anything will be able to top it.

My scale rating would be -1. I may wait until somebody owns the DVD and I'll borrow it.

10..just curious how hollywood portray persians and persian culture savage and bad again...300=propagand..tht wanna tell us persian culture,the best culture ever on earth is nothin but blood and gore
