I don't think you have the right mind set. You should be doing this because you want to, and it sounds like you do! But it also sounds like you think you need to prove something or live up to your mother's past or expectations. Really, I think your mom would just be glad you are taking an interest in something she was also interested in and would be happy to help you. She can motivate you and give you a lot of helpful advice that could really get you to be a great gymnast. You age is not a factor. I mean, it's pretty much too late to be a professional, but you can still be an awesome gymnast.
Good luck and don't ever doubt yourself!!

--I never had high school gymnastics at all. But when I went to college I won the I.I.A.C Still rings championship and made history by being the first of any student for Northern Illinois University to win a gymnastics championship--and I was 20.
--I fell in love with the still rings event and it took me 3 years to accomplish that feat.
--Do you like or love the excitement of gymnastics--that is a must , for it takes a lot of hard work, but you need to be careful to develope your strength and flexibilty at your bodies pace.
--There is nothing wrong with your age, sometimes young girls push to hard at too early an age and do there body harm
--And sometimes the coach is a pusher, wanting to make a name for themselves at the expense of the athlete.
--Let your mom help you and see how you feel about the training and different apparatus.
--Most importantly have fun with this unique sport , rather than be overly concerned about being a champion---that should come naturally if you progress.
--When I competed , I never worried about winning the championship I just loved working the rings and perfecting my routine.

honestly i am a really good gymnast like level 9. i dont think handsprings and splitz and cartwheels is hard gymnastics. those are the basics of gymnastics and if thats all your mom could do then its not hard to imagine that u didnt inherit the skills. it totally depends though. if u like gymnastics then u should do it. if u r just doing it to b like ur mom then dont do it. its ur life.

You sounds like you could be a great gymnast. I have been doing it for awhile. I am an optional now and its not easy, let me tell you that right now but all the hard work is worth it if you are having fun. so go for it if that is what your heart desires.

yes! if you practice at it, you will get good! but try not to compare yourself with your mom! it's noit fair to you, or anyone in your family to expect you to be just like she was! she must have been gifted to be that good! don't worry about it, andjust have fun doing it! do not! try to impress others!
