I'm an American and I've noticed that when I travel to Europe, the black people there act completely different than most of the African Americans that live in America. I'm not saying that all blacks in America are bad, but there are a lot that are. In Europe though, the black people I have met there are much more, I'll say refined for lack of a better term. Why is this and has anyone else noticed?

EDIT: I'm not talking about in the airport...most of the time it is just random people in the street or at coffee shops. I've also met a lot of students. They aren't professional people.

EDIT: I think some people are misreading my question. I said some, not all. I live in a college town and we have black doctors, lawyers and professors all over. We also have an entire street of gang bangers and drug dealers with an NAACP building right in the middle of it. I'm not generalizing that all blacks are like this and I know many that aren't. I just noticed that in England, I've never met a single one that acts "ghetto".

It's not racist in my opinion, i lived in canada and yes african american's are different there. I think it's because of the situation here in America, the gangs, violence, that tend to make a lot of minorities be "Ghetto". I agree with your comment, it's just a fact, it doesn't apply to the entire race, just the ones you and i have encountered along with our experiences in other countries. cheers!

I know that this is not racist at all. I've never been to the USA, but I can imagine what it is like from my friends who live over there. I'll tell you why: it reflects the level of the whole country, and black population in the USA is not any worse than the white population. If the black people behave differently in the USA than in Europe, then this is the level of culture of the whole USA, and this is not the problem of just black people. The same Americans, and not only them, once immigrating to Europe, change according to the surroundings. Why would I continue being rude to people, if everyone around is nice to me? You want to give something back, which is being geniunely considerate in return. Thumbs up for Europe for it's refined culture!

You know, I totally agree with you... Sorta. This isn't a very good generalization cause most americans, black or white, seem the same. they can't even speak their own language, I would know, I am in high school. I get exposed to a lot of stupid people. But in other parts of the world people are more refined because they see Discipline as a must, unlike in america.

P.S. There was slavery in europe too.

Also, this doesn't seem very racists to me.

I have noticed some similarities in the social etiquette of African Americans in Upstate New York compared to African Americans in New York City just 233 miles away. But I believe it has more to do with culture than race. I know some woodchucks from out in the sticks that can be compared as well. Location, location, location.

Maybe it's because they weren't part of the legacy of slavery?? Most Blacks in the U.S. are direct descendants of slaves. Generational insecurities, self-doubt, self-hatred and pain gives birth to a shitload of problems. Hence, present day America.

But don't worry. I personally am friends with multi-million dollar business owners, travelers of the world, doctors, lawyers, writers, musicians, teachers and just a bevy of really positive influences so try not to give up on Black Americans just yet.

You mean they act like civil human beings and do not deliberately keep themselves apart and try to keep all other blacks down with them... you will find many decent human beings who happen to be of african decent in The US. They go about their business just like every one else... that is why you do not notice them... when you work with a decent human being you do not notice what color they are...

just like you notice the a*** hole white who is nothing but a bigoted cretin... you notice the a*** hole who happens to be black for the same reason...

blacks are different all over the world. jamaica, africa, brazil so on. this may sounds strange but if you think about it slavery has to do with how some blacks carry themselves or think of them selves. that idea of being inferior ingrained in SOME blacks mind make them act as if they have low respect for them selves. plus black culture is different here then it is there or anywhere else in the world. your skin color doesnt make you act a certain way its you upbringing. and plus europeans are always more refined:)

Most of the blacks I know and work with are college educated and very refined.

Because they speak with accents. Everybody seems more refined when they speak with a British accent.

Seriously, this question, if not racist (which it probably is), is at least a gross generalization. It's like asking why white French people are different from white Americans. Any question that doesn't treat people as individuals is, I believe, unfair and degrading.

you probably wont find ghetto people in refined places; next time you come to England you should visit Britxton or Peckham and others; there you'll find lots of ghetto people of all races, including black.
